The Model 201 Sonomicrometer Module is a precision instrument designed to measure
cardiac dimensions. It is also used to determine many other soft tissue dimensions as a
measure of muscle function. As a member of the SYSTEM 6 modular physiological
instrumentation family, it operates individually or in conjunction with other instruments
when
housed in the SYSTEM 6 mainframe. The Mainframe can be configured with six Model
201
Sonomicrometer Modules and still synchronize with external instruments, unlike
competing
configurations which support only four Sonomicrometer channels.
The Sonomicrometer Module is an advanced design based on Triton's well known Model
120 Sonomicrometer, which has been the standard in the field for over ten years.
The Sonomicrometer measures the distance between two points in soft tissue by measuring
the time it takes for a sound burst to travel from one point to another. The output is an
analog voltage proportional to the distance between the two transducers. The calibration
is
developed from a stable quartz crystal oscillator whose period of oscillation is equal
to the
time it takes sound to travel 1 mm in tissue.
The Model 201 incorporates many features not found in competing systems. The
calibration steps are individually switch selected for 1mm or 0.2mm on each module. This
feature makes it possible to measure global dimensions on one channel and blood vessel
diameter on another. The second new feature makes it possible to change the relative
timing between a Sonomicrometer channel and the Mainframe system timing. This feature
insures that Sonomicrometer and Pulsed Doppler Flowmeter Modules can operate on a
totally
non-interfering basis.
The SYSTEM 6 mainframe can be user configured to make 'triangulation'
measurements
Two
or more Sonomicrometer modules may be programmed to work from one sender (pinger).
The
Model 201 Modules are designed so that two or more receivers may be connected to one
transducer. These features make it possible to describe the motion of a volume of tissue
in three
dimensions.
The Model 201 Sonomicrometer Modules provide a feature which makes it possible to
monitor
electrograms directly from the dimension transducers. This feature is unique to
the Triton systems.
High-quality premium piezoelectric transducers come in either singles or pairs and are
used with Triton's
sonomicrometer. Custom orders are available.
