The Doppler Displacement
Module uses a single epicardial transducer to monitor
local
transmural wall function. This technique causes no trauma to the underlaying layers
of the myocardium and as such this technique can 'map' local function across an ischemic
area.
Displacement is monitored by transmitting gated bursts of ultrasound into the
myocardium.
Structures in the myocardial muscle layers reflect the incident sound bursts.
A range gate
can be adjusted to monitor the reflected signals from various transmural
depths. As
structures pass through the range gate position the reflected echoes are
shifted in frequency
by an amount proportional to their velocity.
The Model 203 circuits develop an audio signal, whose frequency is proportional to the
velocity of the moving layer. The velocity signal is integrated to generate a displacement
signal. The integration is performed on a 12-bit digital up-down counter.
Triton's unique design allows the Model 203 output to be calibrated in terms of
incremental
displacement. Accurate internal calibrations for displacements of 1,2, 5, and
10mm are
developed from the internal quartz crystal clock and are switch selectable from
the front
panel Run/Calibrate switch. This feature is not available on other displacement
systems.
The Model 203 Module offers five switch-selectable means to reset its integrator. The
integrator can be reset either manually or at fixed time intervals. Alternately, it can be
reset
by the transducer-sensed electrogram or by an external trigger signal which may or
not be
synchronous with heart rate. No other system offers such a degree of user control
over the
inherent limitations of an indefinite integral technique.
Single epicardial transducers used in conjunction with the 203 Displacement Module to
evaluate myocardial wall thickening fraction. Available with no connector (N), Dacron
patch (P) or Cloverleaf wire
loops (C).
